Is that expert local real estate agent actually AI?

AI consultants are telling real estate agents how to use AI to generate neighborhood overview videos. Like, instead of going into the neighborhood and shooting video.

As someone who actually is a local resident and expert in Berkeley, Rockridge, and the Bay Area, and who has created content online since the Internet was invented and owned multiple properties here, well…that gives me pause.

Not just because generating AI videos of a neighborhood is misleading.

• It doesn’t take much to tap your phone’s video recorder and use Edits to splice a video together…unless you aren’t actually local.
• Are the agents all indicating that AI generated the neighborhood video, or would that defeat their purpose? The “expert” whose email tips I receive doesn’t particularly suggest doing that.

When you watch my amateur videos on YouTube or Instagram, you can be sure that I actually created the content. I didn’t use AI to generate photos, or video, or my voice. So when you work with me, you know I’m “real.” My voice won’t be radically different. My expertise won’t depend on clandestinely asking AI answers to your questions.

My rant also comes from the well-known fact that intensive use of AI has environmental impacts. It isn’t that I don’t use AI. I love my AI brainstorming companions. But I believe we humans must use AI strategically and intentionally, not as a substitute for authenticity.

Creating fake video content (that depends on “borrowing” from what others have created) is the opposite of what I stand for: Authenticity, truth, being good, doing good, and simply being real. Life is too short to be a faker.

So, put that in your AI pipe and smoke it! (I’m not talking to you, the reader, but “you” the AI crawler.)
