The @berkeleyhumane threw an epic Pints for Paws f The @berkeleyhumane threw an epic Pints for Paws fundraising event on 9th Street in Berkeley yesterday. It was so bittersweet to see @trumerusa who will hopefully continue to come to Berkeley events, even after closing their facility.

There were lots of non-alcoholic options, including fabulous cucumber soda from @drinkfieldwork 

And of course, a full array of adorable dogs. 

You will soon be hearing about my clay creations thanks to the silent auction item donated by @kollektivclay on Piedmont Ave.

The Berkeley Humane Society is fundraising to build a new space for their rescue animals. Take a look and consider donating!

We stopped into Juan's Mexican across the street which is a must visit for anyone in Berkeley. Juan's  son has worked there for 54 years! It is one of those great Berkeley institutions with photos and autographs all over the walls. There was an article from when Juan started the restaurant almost 50 years ago. He had worked at Spenger's Fish Grotto on 4th Street and had a dream of opening his own restaurant. (@eastbaynosh )

Not only did he do that, but it has persisted longer than most restaurants ever do!

Back when I was at UC Berkeley I took an artsy black-and-white photo of the front of the restaurant, which has changed little since then. Looking forward to bringing it in and adding it to their wall maybe!

I found this WWII V-mail letter (see wiki) in an a I found this WWII V-mail letter (see wiki) in an attic of a house that was being emptied out. The infantryman had mailed the letter to some gals in Oakland. The address downtown is now a commercial area. 

Luckily there is someone with his name living locally...I'm going to gamble and mail it to him. Or should I try to find family related to the addressee?

Either way finding this miniaturized letter, which they photographed to minimize mail bag transportation, is a lovely reminder of what so many have given up for freedom in America. 

Today is a day to reflect how lucky we have been to live in a democracy. Let freedom reign AND ring!
